Position Description

Warrane College is an independent residential college for men affiliated with UNSW Sydney.

Warrane seeks to provide a stimulating environment where young men can flourish, with a moral, intellectual and cultural education.

Residents of Warrane come from diverse backgrounds including rural NSW, interstate and overseas. Similarly diverse is the range of academic programs undertaken by students, who are enrolled in all faculties of the university at levels from undergraduate to doctorate. The academic year includes activities of a cultural, sporting, religious and social nature. Residents are encouraged to strive for excellence; they are also encouraged to feel responsible for society at large, which translates into extensive community service.

The Position

Position title: Recruitment & Admissions Officer

Positions available: One, part-time (16 hours per week)

Location: 356 Anzac Parade, Kensington NSW 2033.

This position allows for working from home, but will require attendance at meetings at least once a fortnight at Warrane, and some on-site visits to meet with staff, as well as some Sydney school visits.

Relationships:

  • Reports to the Warrane College Dean, and the EDA General Manager
  • Works with the Assistant Deans, Operations Officer, and student recruiters
  • Liaises with administrative, marketing and promotions staff of UNSW
  • Liaises with non-resident members, former residents / alumni and their families.

Responsibilities and duties:

Student recruitment: the major deliverable is to ensure that the college’s accommodation is at full capacity year on year.

Specific duties:

  • Act as a salesperson of all that Warrane offers;
  • Cultivate, establish and maintain good relationships with careers advisors and student advisors at key NSW, interstate and overseas schools;
  • Maintain excellent communication with the Future Students office at UNSW, as well as the International Students office, seeking ways to mutually support and benefit;
  • Coordinate, book and initiate promotion events, Warrane’s presence at career markets and expos [in-house staff and students can attend such events];
  • Work / liaise / coordinate with IT staff, webmasters, social media and marketing staff to ensure the Warrane Website, specifically the application portal, is fit for purpose and easy to access, as well as to ensure recruitment-related social media posts are well-timed and strategic;
  • Oversee Warrane’s application process: process application forms, set up interviews between applicants and staff, liaise with the Operations Officer on formal contracts; communicate at every stage of the process with new applicants – from applying to arrival – to ensure they have all the necessary information.
  • General administration around this role.

Experience & credentials:

The successful candidate will have key qualifications in sales and administration, with marketing experience an added bonus. The key skill for this role is exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities. They will also have a deep and thorough knowledge of Warrane College and what is offered. They should have demonstrable experience in relationship maintenance and recruitment / sales. The person will have to be a self-starter with plenty of initiative, ready to pick up the phone every day and chase contacts, particularly through school careers officers. The aim is to establish long-standing relationships and connections between Warrane and high school teachers and students. The candidate will need a positive, can-do attitude, with a tenacity to sell Warrane’s brand to a broad environment, and to persevere and be creative in reaching new markets, as well as understanding where best to focus efforts and energies, and expenses.

Employment type Part-time (16 hours per week, across four days – especially in the application / admission season: October to February. Days are more flexible outside those months.)
