Some of our needs

College Refurbishment

After being built and officially opened in 1971, Warrane was able to refurbish its rooms, bathrooms and common areas in major works throughout the first decade of this century. The refurbishment has been financed primarily with commercial borrowing. The great majority of the capital for these projects are funded with appeals for donations. Warrane’s operational budget is not able to fund a larger portion since the fees are comparable to those of other colleges at UNSW but we invest a good portion to keep a higher level of care of residents and standard of facilities (for example, cleaning three times per week, weekly formal dinners with table service etc); we see these as important aspects of the College environment.

There is always ongoing large-scale maintenance of the Warrane building and we are always looking for donors and partners to help us keep the building upgraded, fit for purpose and in line with modern compliance for fire-safety etc.

Upgrade of the Chapel

The Chapel has been a place of prayer and solace for countless residents.

In 2021, our 50th year, we launched the Warrane Chapel Appeal, so that we could we re-invest in that special space, which has not had a proper refurbishment in 50 years. We were happy to be able to replace the carpet in 2021 and we thank our donors for their help.

Our aim is to:
– Fix and soundproof the windows with double-glazing;
– Insulate the roof and install air-conditioning;

In addition, certain elements of the sanctuary need improvement including the candlesticks, crucifix, presbyterial chair and the the room can be enhanced with the addition of two new statues.

Scholarships and Bursaries

Benefactors are welcome to make a contribution towards the existing range of Scholarships and Bursaries, or to establish new ones.

Currently the majority of the funding for Scholarships and Bursaries comes from the operations of the College. We are very keen to partner with individuals and organisations to establish scholarships for students in particular need, or entering particular fields of study.

Offers to establish new scholarships for students of a particular faculty or place of origin are welcome. For further information, please contact the Dean.

Warrane has been conducting voluntary workcamps since 1987 where volunteers pay their own way to work for approximately three weeks in a community in need. Sometimes the cost to participate in a workcamp can be prohibitive for some students and over the years several Old Boys and friends have made generous donations to defray the cost for these volunteers.

Enquiries about how to support the next Workcamp can be directed to the College Dean.
