Rhys Gard, from Narrabri, has been awarded Warrane’s prestigious Bevan Corbett Outstanding First Year Collegian Award.

“I was surprised when my name was read out, but I’m obviously really pleased to receive the award” said Rhys.

Rhys has just completed his first year of Arts and has been involved in a range of College activities in 2011.

He is looking forward to 2012, having been elected as Cultural Director of the College Activities Committee.

“Cultural Director is a really diverse portfolio, and there are always new ideas to consider” he said. Rhys is looking forward to putting on a full-length stage production next year.

The Bevan Corbett Award was established in 2006 following the tragic death of second year resident Bevan Corbett, while on a summer placement in Cobar.

“Bevan exhibited the qualities of diligence, service, and openness to others that are so important in collegial life” said College Dean and Acting Master, Arthur Escamilla (2011), before presenting the award.
