How Warrane Accommodates You

Standard Room

Accommodation for students is provided in rooms that are identical in size and furnishings. Wired and wireless internet is available in every room. Each room includes: built in desk, cupboard and shelves, a heater and study light. Rooms are cleaned three times per week. Bed linen and towels are changed once per week.

Floor Living Room

Each of the 5 residential floors has a common room. These rooms are decorated with comfortable sofas and a kitchenette (equipped with a sink, microwave oven, fridge, etc).

Common rooms are a focal point for “floor” life, a place to meet for “coffee club” on most week nights, a movie or to gather informally for a chat.

Main Dining Room

Accommodation at Warrane is fully catered and three meals are served each day in the Main Dining Room.

The dining room operates in bistro style, allowing residents to dine within designated opening times. Warrane boasts the best kitchen of any college at UNSW, and residents are welcome to have seconds (or thirds!).

On Wednesday evenings, a formal dinner is served for the entire college, consisting of a three-course meal.

Special diets can be arranged for religious or medical reasons.

Main Common Room

The Main Common Room (MCR) is the heart of social life in the college. It is the venue for large functions such as guest lectures, seminar, music nights, movies as well as informal gatherings for residents and their guests.

The MCR is fitted with a large projection screen and a surround-sound AV system for viewing movies and sports events. The piano in the MCR gets consistent use by many resident musicians.

Accommodation for students is offered with shared bathroom facilities and on each floor there are 3 bathrooms with showers, toilets and wash basins. Bathrooms are cleaned three times per week and provide privacy for several users at a time.

The College courtyard features a large timber deck, surrounded by native trees and ferns, under the shade of a magnificent magnolia tree. This space is used for informal gatherings or for large functions, such as pre-dinner drinks before major college functions.

Graduate Wing

The graduate wing accommodates seven guests in private suites. These rooms are ideally suited to visiting academics and postgraduate students. Each suite includes air-conditioning, a telephone, Internet access and storage space.

Guests of the graduate wing have access to the guest lounge and a kitchenette.

The College Chapel dedicated to “Our Lady of Fair Love” offers a quiet place for prayer and reflection. Sunday Mass is celebrated at 5:00 pm and attracts people from other Colleges on campus. Other events conducted in the chapel include: weekday Mass and Rosary and weekly talks held by the chaplain and Benediction. The resident chaplain, a Catholic priest of Opus Dei, is available for personal consultation and guidance.

The college library is a hub of academic work, due to its quiet location next to the UNSW Village Green.

The library stocks textbooks, non-fictional works, fiction and a range of journals and magazines. It is designed to accommodate a capacity of 20 students, with individual study desks and internet access.

The library is air-conditioned and offers ample storage space. It is a popular destination for private study for residents and friends.

Computer Room

A common computer room is located on the first floor. The room offers computers, internet access, ports for laptops and a state-of-the-art colour laser printer.

Other Facilities

Late Dining Room

The Late Dining Room is located on the ground floor, off the courtyard. Residents can access this room for early breakfast or late dinner, outside the opening hours of the Main Dining Room.

The Late Dining Room has facilities for making hot drinks and snacks.

Seminar Room

In 2008, a purpose-built seminar room was opened next to the library. This has light furniture that can be arranged for purposes of a class, meeting or seminar.

The Seminar room is air-conditioned, has a plasma screen for projection and opens up to a large open area that can be used for break-out meetings.

The college laundry facilities consist of 4 washing machines and 4 dryers. There are also drying and ironing rooms on each floor.

Payment for laundry machines is included in college fees; however, residents are required to supply their own washing powder.

Storage Room

Each resident is allocated a 1m x 1m x 1m locker in the storage room on their floor.

The locker can be locked with the same key that locks your wardrobe and desk drawers.

Guest Dining Room

A Guest Dining Room is located on the 2nd floor and is primarily used by college staff to receive guests. Special meals with residents, such as Faculty Dinners, take place in the Guest Dining Room.

TV room

The TV/projection room is located in the centre of the first floor of the college, off the courtyard balcony. The room is air-conditioned and has access to cable TV.

Music room

The music room is located next to the TV room on the first floor. This sound-proof room, which is fitted with air-conditioning and soft furnishings, features a piano and drum kit and is a comfortable place for individuals to practice.

En-suite Rooms

Each residential level has one large student room with an ensuite bathroom. They are typically in demand by senior students or residential staff.

These rooms have a commanding view over the UNSW campus.
