Another O-Week Rolls By

Warrane had another action packed Orientation Week to welcome 60 new residents to the College for 2012.

The week began on Sunday February 19 with a College Mass at 11.30am followed by a buffet lunch for the new residents and their families. After lunch various staff members of the College introduced themselves to the newcomers in the Main Common Room.

The group then headed down the coast to Gerringong accompanied by members of staff, tutors, and the Activities Committee. The first evening featured some 'getting to know you' and beach activities.

Monday morning pitted the residents into their floor groups in competition for the Tamer Masri O-week shield. After these beach competitions the new batch headed to Jamberoo Recreation Park for the afternoon. This was followed by dinner at Gerringong Bowling Club and, back at the accommodation in Chittick Lodge, the first floor coffee clubs for the year.

On Tuesday February 22 the group headed back to Sydney with the obligatory stop at the Royal National Park. 'Unsinkable Boats' at Audley Boat Shed have been a Warrane O-week activity since 1970 and it is believed that this years events were the most hotly contested of all time. The equally obligatory First Year Photograph was taken- thankfully recent flooding at the weir had subsided.

Back in College for the evening, the floor groups put their heads together to contest a Trivia Night, hosted by the College cultural director.

After a well earned rest first years left early on Wednesday February 23 for a day of paintballing in Windsor. On their return, they again split into floor groups for floor dinners at venues around Sydney.

Another well earned rest and another day of team building and fun followed on Thursday February 24, with the traditional Log Adventure.

On Friday senior residents organised an Amazing Race, sending floor groups in pursuit of obscure but fair clues around the campus and the CBD. On their return to College the students smartened up for Cocktails with the Master in the Main Common Room.

The week concluded on Saturday February 26 with lawn bowls at Kensington Bowling Club during the day and an awards ceremony back at the College after dinner.

Well done to all the first years for their enthusiasm and to all involved in the organisation of the events!
