Christian lobbyist Lyle Shelton to be guest at Warrane
Wednesday 10 August 2016 7.15 - 8.00pm
Lobbyist on Christian issues, Mr Lyle Shelton, will speak at Warrane on Wednesday 10 August 2016.
Mr Shelton, who has a background in journalism, often appears in newspapers and on television current affairs programs like the ABC's Q&A, to give a Christian perspective on topical issues.
In the same-sex marriage debate, he has condemned the proposal as "insensitive to the needs of children and the cultural and even religious views of the vast majority of Australians".
Mr Shelton served as the Chief of Staff of the Australian Christian Lobby for six years and was appointed as Managing Director in May 2013.
He served as councillor on Toowoomba City Council from 2000 to 2006 before retiring to contest the 2006 Queensland state election for the seat of Toowoomba North for the Queensland Nationals and served as chair of the Council’s Strategy and Governance Committee and campaigned against the sex trade in the area
Shelton is a member of the Australian Churches Gambling Taskforce. In relation to poker machines, he has said that, "it's an issue that's causing incredible hardship to children and to families right across this nation and it needs to be tackled".
After Senator Cory Bernardi's office was "trashed" and his staff were threatened by supporters of the Safe schools, anti-bullying program, he said the protest showed a "disturbing lack of tolerance".
He will speak in Warrane’s Main Common Room from 7.15 pm.
