Cancer Survivor Jay Allen is this week’s Wednesday Night Guest

Wednesday 14 September 2016

Back in 2007, Jay Allen was diagnosed with life-threatening stage III melanoma. Now – after two major operations, a bout of chemotherapy and a check-up every three months for five years – he has gone from truck driver to advocate for cancer awareness.

Australia has the highest incidence of melanoma in the world, so this message is an important one – especially considering that melanoma is often identifiable at a stage when simple treatment can result in a complete cure.

These days, Allen works as a Community Coordinator for Melanoma Institute Australia and, (as someone who was once a frequent indoor tanning user), is also on a mission to ban the use of sun-beds around Australia (see more at sunbedban.com). Allen facilitates melanoma support groups throughout NSW and spreads the awareness message by speaking at community groups, events, schools and more.
