UNSW Info Day 2011

UNSW's 2011 Info Day will take place on Wednesday January 5, from 9am to 4pm. The Info Day provides a great opportunity to find out more about the university facilities and services prior to starting.

It is also a great chance to check out UNSW's accommodation options. Visit the Warrane stall in the Colleges section and come on a tour of the College any time between 9am and 4pm.

Procter Morris Cup 2010

After five years in the wilderness, the Procter Morris Cup returns in 2010. The Cup will be contested at The Coast Golf Club, Little Bay on Saturday November 27. Tee off from 1:30pm. Cost $33.50. A BBQ will be held afterwards for Old Boys and their families at the south end of Arthur Byrne Reserve, Maroubra Beach.

Past winners include David Waghorn, Troy Greig, and Steve Dejong. Paul McCormack won the Cup when it was last played in 2005.

Spanish Consul to Visit College

The Consul General of Spain, Señor Gerardo Bugallo Ottone will be this week's Wednesday night guest.

Mr Bugallo completed a Bachelor of Law at Universidad Complutense in Madrid and then a Master of International Studies at the Diplomatic School of Madrid. He has had a distinguished diplomatic career which has included postings in New York, Budapest, Algeria, Tokyo and Geneva.

He has been made an officer of the Spanish Merit Civil Order, an Officer of the Order of Queen Isabel the Catholic, and a Commander of the Order of the Rising Sun.

In 2009 he received his latest appointment as Consul General of Spain in Sydney, Australia. Mr Bugallo is married and has two children.

Inaugural Dinner 2011

Warrane’s inaugural dinner for Session One will be held on Wednesday March 2.

The guest speaker for the dinner is the executive chairman of stockbroking firm Ord Minnett Ltd, Mr Karl Morris.

Karl has wide ranging experience in the community and in business. He started his stockbroking career in 1987 at A. C. Goode and Co and joined Ord Minnett Ltd in 1990.

He held the position of CEO and Managing Director of Ord Minnett from 2004 until his appointment as Executive Chairman in 2009.

Over the 20-year period that he has been with Ord Minnett, he has managed all aspects of the business including stockbroking, funds management and corporate finance.

He holds a Commerce Degree and Diplomas from the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Financial Services Institute of Australasia and is on the Board and is a Master Member of the Stockbrokers Association of Australia.

Karl is also Patron of the child protection organisation, Bravehearts, and Governor of Notre Dame University of Australia, a Board Member of the Sydney Catholic Archdiocese Finance and Development Fund Committees and the Nudgee Junior College.

The dinner will commence with drinks in the Main Common Room at 5.45pm.

Zip CEO to Visit College

Michael Crouch AO will be the Formal Dinner guest at Warrane this Wednesday, 13th October.

Mr Crouch is Chairman/CEO of Zip Industries. Zip Industries is the Australian manufacturer and distributor of industry-leading potable boiling and chilled filtered water delivery products. Zip was the first company worldwide to develop small instant boiling water heaters. Those heaters are now widely used throughout Australian offices and in the UK. They are also used by some fifteen Houses of Parliament globally, and in the offices of at least four Heads of State.

Michael Crouch is a prominent member of the Australian business community, with a long-held strong interest in promoting Australian exports. In 1996 he was appointed one of the three Australian representatives to the APEC Business Advisory Council by the Prime Minister at the time, John Howard. The Council of 21 economies in the Asia-Pacific region reports to national leaders directly once a year on business perspectives, and the annual plans of Government to diminish barriers to trade. Remaining a member of APEC until 2007.

He has contributed to Australian business and the wider community for many years. Michael Crouch was appointed an Officer of the Order of St John in 1996 in recognition of his service to St John Ambulance Australia. He was awarded the Centenary Medal by the Governor-General in 2003 for his services to Australian society through international trade development. He was appointed to the Order of Australia as a Member (AM) Order of Australia in 1988 for service to conservation and the community and as an Officer (AO) in June 2004 for service to the manufacturing sector, to the development of export markets in the Asia-Pacific region and to the community through a range of conservation and charitable organizations.
